Right off the bat….you realize three things. It's creepy. It's cooky. It's all together spooky. I made this because it needed shops to exist. This handsome handstand probably didn't need to be 8” tall and just as wide… or did it?
I make these in our living room using a process called 3D printing. It's a building up thin layers of material until you have a finished product. The more layers, the higher the resolution. This model is 1978 layers of 446°F filament. That's approximately 250 layers per inch of molten wood. That's right! It's printed out of wood…saw dust to be exact. Not an easy material to work with… it adds two hours of post print hand sanding, it's hard on the machines, and it's not cheap. But it makes this look so much more realistic! I think it's worth it! After a couple baths in a special polyurethane/ acrylic blend. It's finally ready for a new home!
