L.E. shops Smith Amberina Vintage Art Glass ~ Fluted Glass Footed Bowl, circa 1960s

This listing is for a mid-century footed bowl, amberina color was referred to as Pennsylvania flame. The L.E. Smith Glass Company was founded by "Lew" Smith in Pennsylvania, in 1907. The company was first known for the glassware it produced from 1910 to 1921: mustard jars (along with the mustard that filled them), fruit jars, jelly jars, and headlights for Henry Ford's Model T, among many other products. Later, they expanded into lamps, vases, milk glass, carnival glass and a variety of novelty items.

I love sharing a bit of a piece's personal history. When Knott's Berry Farm opened its gift shop- Virginia's-my aunt (who passed away eight years ago at 98 years old) was a regular shopper every time she visited California from Minnesota. She always bought beautiful glass serving dishes or figurines. I inherited this artisan's wonder from her collection.

This piece is great in almost any décor—modern, Danish, Retro, Country, Victorian. While it is a beautiful serving dish—it looks awesome in a glass collection in a window sill. My aunt displayed her three favorite Virginia Gift Shop pieces together: This Scalloped Bowl, The Swan and The Long-tailed Bird together on her coffee table, but during special gatherings used them to create a spectacular center piece in her dining room.

The scalloped (handkerchief) rim and amber ‘footing' are both in excellent condition with no chips, shops cracks or discoloration.
